Abstract

959,111. Magnetron amplifiers. RAYTHEON CO. Sept. 29, 1961 [March 29, 1961], No. 35389/61. Heading H1D. In a magnetron amplifier tube or amplitron having the resonant elements 67, Fig. 5, of the wave propagating structure coextensive with the cathode electron emissive surface (not shown), the impedance of the elements towards at least one end of the structure differ from the impedance at the centre in order to match the structure to the transformer sections 48, 49; as shown, capacitance increasing conductive plates 46, 47 and 72, 73 are attached to the ends of the straps 44, 45 interconnecting alternate resonant elements 67. In other methods the straps are close together at the ends of the structure and the straps may be curved to vary the spacing between them progressively. The transformer sections 48, 49 are connected to ridged waveguides which may form extensions of one another. Flanges 68 are attached to the elements 67 which are hollow for the circulation of cooling fluid.
