Abstract
995,826. Thermionic valves. MULLARD Ltd. April 30, 1964, No. 18006/64. Heading H1D. A frame grid for a discharge tube includes a pair of parallel backbones 1, 2 spaced apart by cross-bars 3, 4 welded to them at each end, the grid wire 5 being wound around the backbones and having each of its ends gripped within a hook 6 formed on the end of a cross-bar. The backbones and cross-bars may be of molybdenum, the inner surface of the hook portion being coated with a ductile material, e.g. copper, silver, or gold, to improve the clamping action (Fig. 5, not shown). In alternative embodiments, cross-bars 3 and 4 are formed as a single U-member (Fig. 3, not shown), and backbones 1, 2 are of elongated section, with flat sides, to give increased resistance to bending.
