Abstract
1,222,356. Fusible cut-outs. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 27 March, 1968 [30 March, 1967], No. 14467/67. Heading H2G. A fusible element consists of or includes a silver strip or strip-like portion having a plurality of elongated apertures extending laterally across it and spaced apart along its length, the width of the strip or strip-like portion, the length and width of each aperture and the spacing between the apertures being approximately in the ratio 5: 3¢: 1: 12. The strip may be flat, and one or more such strips may be wound in a helical path on a ceramic former. Alternatively the elements may be formed with groups of two or more laterally aligned apertures spaced apart along their length and bent longitudinally into one of the forms shown so that a former is not needed for support. A transverse solder fillet may be applied midway along the length of an element to promote arcing in the centre of the strip. The apertures may be formed by photo-etching or press techniques.
