Abstract
809,757. Travelling-wave tubes. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIC SANS FIL. Feb. 14, 1957 [Feb. 20, 1956], No. 5059/57. Class 39(1). A travelling-wave tube with crossed E and H fields has two or more separate beams 25, 26 successively associated with the same delay line 2 and mutually uncoupled. The first beam 25 is emitted from gun 9 and caught by a collector 10 within a recess in the sole 3. The gun 11 for the second beam 26 is also within this recess, but is inclined to the main axis of the electrodes. Collector 10 may be surface treated to avoid secondary emission. The tube may be a backward-wave oscillator, with an internal or external attenuator, or a forward-wave amplifier, and the tube may be linear instead of circular.
