Class 20(3) [Also in Group XXV] A rectangular metal frame for a glass window of the kind in which the complete window space is divided horizontally by a cross bar to provide spaces for upper and lower glass panes is characterized in that the complete frame comprises two components, each formed from a U-frame having mitred ends which are united to the mitred ends of a cross bar by an electric flash welding process, the cross bars being secured together, back-to-back, to form the complete frame. As shown cross bars B<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>2</SP> having mitred ends are secured at C, by means of electric flash welding, to the mitred ends respectively of U- frame members A<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>2</SP>, the component cross bars B<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>2</SP> then being rigidly secured, back-to-back, e.g. by riveting, to form a single cross bar in a unitary frame. A rubber strip D is interposed between the adjoining, outer, edges of the united bars B<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>2</SP>. A fixed glass pane E is mounted within the lower component frame A<SP>2</SP>, B<SP>2</SP>, the upper component frame B<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>2</SP> accommodating the fixed outer and two inner sliding panes. The window may be glazed with fixed upper and lower panes or with a fixed upper pane and a double glazed lower component. Means for latching the meeting edges of the sliding panes comprises a finger piece H which is fixed to the inner stile on one of the panels and has a detent H<SP>1</SP> for engagement by a spring loaded claw J<SP>1</SP> which is pivoted on a finger piece J attached to a corresponding stile on the other sliding pane. The pieces H, J are preferably in the form of bars which extend the full height of the upper component frame. A drain tube, not shown, carries off any moisture collecting on the bottom of the lower component frame A<SP>2</SP>, B<SP>2</SP>.
