Abstract

808,492. Collapsible boxes. MAC ECHERN & CO. Ltd., and MAC ECHERN, D. M. A. July 27, 1955 [Aug. 9, 1954, April 6, 1955], Nos. 23137/54 and 10121/55. Class 18. A collapsible box comprises a flanged base, flanged lid and wall panels separable therefrom and dimensioned to nest in the base or lid, the base being provided with clips 8 between which and the flanges 5a of the base the lower parts of the walls 1, 3 are frictionally gripped when the box is erected a plurality of narrow clips or single wide ones may be rivetted to the flanges 5a and if shaped with cross-section as shown in Fig. 8 the nose 8a may slip into longitudinal grooves 9 or over inwardly formed ribs or a tongue may engage a slot in the flange. The joint may be made weather-proof either by outward ribs 12 of the walls registering with the lips of the flanges, Fig. 8, or by rivetted weather strips engaging between the flanges 5a and clips 8 with the wall 1 abutting the flange. The lid 15 grips the walls by means of clips 16 as shown in Fig. 5. The walls may be flattened out by folding e.g. as shown in Fig. 2 or by disengaging dove-tail joints along adjacent edges, the pairs of interlocking members forming corner posts. The flat parts of the box may be of vulcanised fibre, fibreboard, plywood or metal, the clips of resilient metal, plastic or vulcanised fibre and the interlocking members may be extruded in metal or plastic-material. Boxes of different heights may be built-up with the same base and lid from a selection of sets of wall parts.
