807,430. Collapsible vehicles. HEWINS, R. H. July 29, 1957 [July 27, 1956], No. 23326/56. Class 108(1) An awning-assembly for use with a vehicle comprises a roller blind, means for supporting the blind in a position in which it can be unfurled to extend away from the body of the vehicle and means adapted to maintain the blind extended with its free edge disposed at a position spaced from the vehicle body so as to provide shelter adjacent the vehicle. The roller blinds 12 and 13 are supported in a compartment 6, said compartment being formed by plates 4 and 5, and a framework 1 secured to the vehicle roof. The blinds, mounted longitudinally on shafts journalled in brackets 14 may be furled and unfurled by means of hand-crank 15, and when unfurled are supoprted by stretcher rods 24, 25 and uprights 17, 18, lath member 16 carried at the free end of each blind being adapted by means of brackets and pegs to be fastened to the stretcher rods and uprights. The gap between each blind and the car may be masked by a flap 30 fastened to the blinds and arranged to fall verticallly when the blind is unfurled. Side curtains can be fastened to the stretcher rods, uprights and lath members if required, and a fexible window 39 can be provided in curtain 36. When dismantled the curtains may be rolled on the uprights and stretcher rods and stored in pigeon hole compartments formed in compartment 6. The upright rods are jointed at 33 to facilitate storage and the stretcher rods may be telescopic if required.
