Abstract

806,029. Expanding V-pulleys. AMERICAN PULLEY CO. May 2, 1957 [June 18, 1956], No. 14015/57. Class 80 (2). An expanding V-pulley comprises a pair of externally tapered bushes 8, 9 splined to the shaft 7 and surrounded by a correspondingly tapered split sleeve 3 on which flanges 1, 2 are keyed at 37, and are simultaneously axially adjustable by means of a screw 15 which has a central collar 16 located in a central notch of the sleeve 3 to prevent lateral shifting of the belt centre during adjustment. Each end of the screw 15 has opposite hand threads which engage lugs 18, 19 which are fixed to the flanges 1, 2 and project through the split in the sleeve 3 to slide in grooves 10, 11 in the bushes 8, 9. Locking screws 30 engage the split bush 9 and are rotatably free but axially constrained in the bush 8 and on tightening lock the flanges 1, 2 to the sleeve 3.
