Abstract
750,186. Securing pulleys &c. to shafts. ZERNY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. July 26, 1954 [Oct. 23, 1953], No. 29374/53. Class 80(2) A pulley, sheave, sprocket &c. has a hub 2 taper bored at each side to receive a pair of bushes 4, 5 which are each tapered, split and contractile, bored to fit a shaft and drawn together to secure the sheave &c. on the shaft by screws 7 having threaded engagement with at least one of the bushes. As shown, only the bush 5 is tapped to receive the screws 7, but in a modification, (Fig. 2 (Provisional) not shown)), both bushes are tapped to receive screws having differential threads. These screws are turned in one direction to draw the bushes together and clamp them to the shaft, and in the other to force the bushes apart so that the sheave &c. is no longer secured to the shaft,. In the form shown, Woodruff keys 3 also connect the hub 2 and bushes 4, 5. The two tapered bores in the hub 2 may meet at the centre to define a double cone, or may be separated centrally by an inwardly extending web leaving sufficient room for the shaft and apertured to receive the screws.
