Abstract

<PICT:0805812/III/1> Misting on the observation window 4 of a vacuum metal evaporation plant is prevented by supplying a current of argon from a container 8 controlled by a needle valve 7 and directed against the inner face of the window by a nozzle 10. The latter is enclosed by a cylinder 11 partially closed at the inner end by one or more diaphragms each formed with a viewing aperture 13. The invention may be combined with known devices such as removable blinds, protective glasses, wipers, pinhole diaphragms or cooled diaphragms.
