Abstract
805,792. Temperature-sensitive resistors. WELWYN ELECTRICAL LABORATORIES Ltd., and BROWNING, J. Feb. 27, 1956, No. 6024/56. Class 37. A temperature-sensitive resistor comprising an oxide of titanium, is produced by heating a mixture of materials including a solid reducing- agent, in a neutral atmosphere, to 1100- 1250‹ C. to form a titanium suboxide. The solid reducing agent may consist of carbon, ferrous oxide, ferrosilicon or a hydrocarbon such as paraffin wax. In one example, 91.5 per cent of magnesium titanate, 3.67 per cent of ground borosilicate glass, 0.25 per cent of acetylene black and 4.58 per cent of talc were mixed with a little of a dispersing agent such as " Teepol " (Registered Trade Mark) in water, milled, filtered, dried, ground and pressed into suitable shapes, and fired in a nitrogen atmosphere at a temperature of 1150‹ C. The magnesium titanate may be produced by firing a mixture of rutile and magnesium carbonate at 950-1150‹ C. The resulting body has low porosity.
