575,506. Primers for chemical heating compositions. GILLIES, J., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 27, 1943, No. 21517/44. Divided out of 575,476. [Class 9 (ii)] A priming composition for use in igniting chemical heating compositions comprises calcium silicide and manganese dioxide. The manganese dioxide may be the artificiallyprepared material or pyrolusite, but not the hydrated forms. The composition may contain also cupric oxide and a diluent such as china clay, and may be ignited (a) by a combustible train terminating in a bead comprising calcium silicide, red lead and nitrocellulose (as binding agent), or (b) by the composition itself plus nitrocellulose as a binder, and may be used in combination with a heating composition comprising (1) calcium silicide, 'hammerscale and china clay, or (2) silicon, hammerscale, aluminium and calcium silicide (see Specification 575,475, [Group XIII].
