Abstract
805,105. Universal joints. COOTE & JORGENSEN Ltd. Sept. 10, 1956 [Dec. 5, 1955], No. 34775/55. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXII] In a universal joint of the type having a flange keyed on each of the opposed ends of two connected shafts, one of the flanges having rubber shod projections which house freely within cavities formed in the other flange, each projection comprises a pin having a threaded end 5 and an unthreaded end 6 to which is bonded a rubber sleeve 7 externally of barrel shape. The central part 8 of the sleeve surface is cylindrical and the two outer parts 9 taper inwardly at an angle of 1.5-5.0 degrees to a line parallel to the main axis of the pin. According to the Provisional Specification, the outer surface of the rubber sleeve 7 may alternatively be of cylindrical shape.
