804,898. Resistance coatings; variable resistors. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 4, 1957 [Jan. 7, 1956], No. 439/57. Drawings to Specification. Class 37. In a variable resistor in which a slider contact moves over a resistance track, the resistance film is not more than 50 microns thick and the surface beneath the film has a roughness of not more than 0.1 micron. The resistance film, which may be made from a suspension of carbon in an organic binder, is preferably from 10 to 20 microns thick but may be as little as 5 microns in applications where the contact is seldom displaced.
