Electric resistance material comprises a finely divided resistance substance, preferably graphite or a resistance wire alloy containing iron, a non-conductive inert carrier material such as synthetic resin, and an insulating material, for example glass powder, beeswax or a silicone oil, the insulating material having a substantially higher specific resistance and a greater coefficient of thermal expansion than the resistance substance so that when the resistance material is heated the insulating material expands to a greater extent than the resistance substance and thus increases the resistance to current flow between the particles of resistance substance. The resistance material has a positive temperature coefficient of resistance even if the coefficient of the resistance substance is negative. In use the resistance material is applied as a thin coating on an additional rigid or flexible carrier, or is formed into a self-supporting foil.
