In a potentiometer comprising a partcircular layer of resistance material 2 mounted on a ceramic carrier 1, a metal coil spring 10 or other resilient member is disposed around the terminal members 7 between the carrier and a flange 11 in order to maintain a constant pressure on the resistance layer. The terminals may also have collars 8. A stop 4 is provided for the rotary contact arm 3.
