Abstract

866,341. Potentiometers. WELWYN ELECTRIC Ltd. Dec. 11, 1959, No. 42262/59. Class 37. A potentiometer comprises an insulated body containing a resistive track, wiper carrier and wiper closed by a conductive plate serving as a slip ring and carrier retaining means. The cupshaped body 10, of the potentiometer, Fig. 2, contains an annular recess for housing the track 12 which is in the form of a coating of carbon resin composition on a thin plastic base of arcuate form and is riveted to terminals 16. A bush 20 acting as a carrier 22 for a wiper 24 fits into a central hole 18. The wiper 24 is formed as a ring-shaped member and is bent back on itself to form a U-shape so that because of its springiness it exerts a pressure on the track 12 and cover-plate 26 through suitable dimples, being clipped on to the wiper carrier 22 by means of two inwardly-projecting parts 25b. The cover-plate 26 encloses the potentiometer within the body 10 and is held in position by lug 29 and tabs, the bottom part being formed into terminal 32. The carrier 22 is provided with a cross-shaped recess, Fig. 3 (not shown), on both its sides to allow adjustments to be made or may be provided with a shaft.
