804,138. Supporting lamps on instrument panels. MACY, V. E. June 13, 1955 [June 14, 1954], No. 17011/56. Classes 75(2) and 75(4) [Also in Group XXV] Means for mounting pilot lamps comprise a body of light pervious material having a jewel front portion; with a rearward facing shoulder adapted to abut the front surface of the panel and an integral lamp mounting portion extending through an aperture in the panel and supporting the lamp parallel thereto. In one form, the lamp 4 is held in a U-shaped slot in the body 1 which extends through the panel 6 and terminates in the jewel portion 2. Alternatively, the body 1 may be solid and provided with a grooved end against which the lamp 28 is held by a spring clip 20, Fig. 4, which also serves to hold the body in place on the panel. In a further modification, a helical spring on the body holds this in place on the panel, the last few turns being bent outwards to grip the lamp. A colour filter may be interposed between the lamp and the end of the body and, where the lamp is held by spring means to the body, a reflector may be interposed between the lamp and the spring. In a further modification, the body may be in the form of a tube with the end closed by a jewel front and having a lens mounted therein for focusing the light from the lamp on the jewel, the lamp being held in place by the last few turns of a helical spring coiled round the body. The supporting means are specially suitable for use with socketless lamps e.g. baseless neon lamps.
