Abstract

803,743. Making mattress frames; angular bending; bolted points. BRYANT & SONS, Ltd., C. April 23, 1957 [April 21, 1956], No. 12263/56. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). flanges 5 of the strip, joggling the metal bordering one side of the strip at 10 so that a portion is displaced out of the plane of the remainder of the flange 5, undercutting the opposite edge 8 of the slit 6 from the free edge to the root of the flange, and bending the other flange 7 in the vicinity of the joggle to take the undercut edge into overlapping relationship to the displaced portion. A hole 11 is formed in the displaced portion of the flange 5 and a hole 12 in the flange 5 adjacent the undercut edge 8. A bolt 14 is passed through the holes when the anglesection is bent. To make a frame for a wire mattress two U-shaped members 1, 2 are formed by bending two lengths of angle-section at spaced positions 3, 4 therealong. Both flanges 5, 7 at one end of each U member 1, 2 are joggled at 16, Fig. 6, a hole 18 is formed in one displaced flange portion 17 and a hole 19 in the corresponding flange 5 of the unjoggled end of the other U-member. The U-members are then assembled to form a frame and are secured together by bolts 20 passing through the holes 18, 19.
