Abstract

802,598. Photo-transistor circuits. BAILEY METERS & CONTROLS, Ltd. June 19, 1957 [June 20, 1956], No. 19139/56. Class 40 (6). A photo-sensitive circuit comprises a photosensitive transistor coupled to a second transistor and a positive feedback path from the second transistor to the first, the arrangement being such that the second transistor is either in a conducting or non-conducting condition depending on whether the illumination of the first transistor is above or below a predetermined value. In the circuit shown, in the absence of illumination, photo-transistor 1 is substantially non-conducting and transistor 3 is conducting so that a relay 31 is operated. When the illumination increases above a predetermined value the photo-transistor 1 becomes more conductive and transistor 3 is cut off, releasing the relay, the change-over from non-conductive to conductive states being assisted by feed-back produced by the common emitter resistor 5. In the conducting condition transistor 3 has a low collector potential and therefore does not dissipate much power.
