Abstract

A solid cyanide is prepared by spray drying an aqueous solution thereof in a current of preheated air which has been freed from carbon dioxide by washing with an alkaline solution to avoid liberation of HCN by CO2. Air is washed with caustic soda solution, heated, preferably to 150 DEG C., and passed into a cyclone, into which aqueous sodium cyanide solution is introduced. Solid NaCN is withdrawn, and the air is recycled to washing, which removes fine NaCN particles and any HCN, pre-heating, and spray drying. The Specification also refers to potassium, zinc, and copper cyanides.
