Abstract
Alkali cyanides are obtained by heating a dry mixture of alkali carbonate, alkaline earth carbide and carbon at 500-600 DEG C. Ferrocyanides are formed in presence of iron, and sulphocyanides in presence of sulphur compounds such as sulphates or sulphides. The alkali cyanide is extracted by leaching and the carbon left has high decolorizing power.
