Abstract

801,878. Trawl boards for fishing. BURNEY, Sir C. D. Jan. 1, 1957, No. 31/57. Class 48. A trawling otter comprises one or more lateral pressure vanes built up of tubes 1 secured together in super-position and one or more laterally projecting stabilizing surfaces 5. The tubes are airtight and may have valves through which air may be pumped. The depth of the front part of the vane is increased by two extra-short tubes. The ends of the tubes are protected by channel-section plates 2, 3. The stabilizing surfaces 5 are provided by horizontal fins mounted on the top and bottom edges of the rear part of the vanes behind the towing points. A vertical rudder 6 is fitted near the tail end of the vane. The vane is of curved shape. In another construction the otter comprises two curved or flat vanes arranged in tandem and connected along their upper edges by a stay bar and along their lower edges by a hollow boom which may be watertight. The rear vane only or both vanes are built up from superposed watertight tubes. The stabilizing fins extend horizontally from one or both vanes. The two vanes may be inclined at equal or different angles to the connecting stay bar and boom. Specifications 632,877 and 791,615, [Group XXXVIII], are referred to.
