Abstract

855,746. Trawl nets. CANADIAN PATENTS & DEVELOPMENT Ltd. Oct. 2,1958 [October 4, 1957], No. 31534/58. Class 48 An otterboard comprises two' plates 1, 2 disposed at an oblique angle to each other and meeting along a horizontal shearing edge 3. The top edge of the upper plate 1 is recessed to accommodate an air filled tube 4. A runner 11 is secured to the lower edge of the lower plate 2. A bar of lead is secured adjacent the runner 11 on the back of the board and a second lead bar is adjustably secured in a recess formed by a plate 13 secured to the back of the board and spanning the joint of the two plates 1, 2. Two horizontal fins 5, 6 are secured to the plates 1, 2 and an adjustable vertical fin 10 is secured to the horizontal fins. In a modified construction the two plates 1, 2 are longitudinally curved and a horizontal plate extends forward from the joint line of the two plates. In order to streamline the leading edges of the curved plates 1, 2 two small curved plates are secured to the two plates 1, 2 with their concave sides facing the concave sides of the plates 1, 2; alternatively hardwood or lead may be attached to the edges of the plates 1, 2.
