Abstract

801,837. Variable speed gear. GETRAG GETRIEBEUND ZAHNRADFABRIK G.m.b.H. Jan. 21, 1957 [Jan. 21, 1956], No. 2209/57. Class 80 (2). A change speed gear in which the gear change is effected by the axial displacement of a wedge member, within a hollow countershaft, acting on radially displaceable selector members whose centre of gravity is positioned such that centrifugal force tends to engage the selector members when in the engaged position and to keep them disengaged when in the idle position. The selector members 7<SP>1</SP> ... 7<SP>5</SP> have rectangular cross-section and are slidably positioned in rectangular radial bores in the hollow counter shaft 5, such that when acted upon by the cam surfaces of the wedge member 6, engage slots in the bores of the change speed wheels. The centre of gravity of the selector member in this position lies beyond the axis of the hollow shaft on the engaged side. When disengaged or idle the centre of gravity lies to the disengaged side causing the free end of the selector, which is of sufficient width not to enter the slots in the change speed wheels, to bear against the bore of the wheel.
