Abstract
752,997. Differential gearing. MAAG GEAR WHEEL & MACHINE CO., Ltd. Oct 8, 1954 [Oct. 12, 1953], No. 29101/54. Class 80(2) Differential gearing comprises an internally-recessed outer member 93, Figs. 12, 14, integral with the driving gear 120, an externally-recessed inner member 96 splined on one half-axle 97, and an intermediate member 94 which is splined on the other half-axle 95 and which has radial slots guiding plungers 92 or rollers each of which engages the recessed surfaces of both members 93, 96. The number of recesses on member 96 is less than half the number of recesses in member 93, both these numbers preferably being even, e.g. six and fourteen, while the number of plungers 92 is equal to the difference between the numbers of recesses. This arrangement ensures that torque is always applied to both halfaxles, so preventing wheel spin. Two side members 98'. 99' of unequal diameters, are secured to gear 120 by inclined screws 100, this arrangement allowing the hypoid pinion 119, driving the gear 120, to be mounted between two bearings 122, 123 disposed on opposite sides of the axis of the halfaxles, while the bearings 125, 126 for the side members 98<SP>1</SP>, 99<SP>1</SP> are both on the one side of the pinion shaft 127. In the constructions shown in Fig. 9, the side members are of equal diameter and are fastened to the gear 120 by rivets 82. The spaces between spokes 86 of the side members provide for the passage of lubricant, facilitated by bevelling the leading edges of the spokes.
