Abstract
801.607. Platen printing machines; sheet delivery apparatus. KYLE. N. June 19, 1957 [June 19, 1956], No. 18878/56. Classes 100(1) and 100(2) A platen printing machine comprising a fixed bed 1, provided with type 2, and a platen 3 carried upon parallel shafts 4, 5, the shaft 4 being fixed, and the shaft 5 being swung together with the platen 3 towards and away from the type bed, includes a delivery gripper 2a slidably reciprocable in the plane of the platen 3 along the shaft 4 and a blower unit comprising a system of pipes 17 each communicating with the interior of, and being fixed perpendicularly to, a main air supply pipe 13 disposed parallel to the shafts 4, 5. The gripper 2a is guided into sheet receiving position by a forked gripper guide 7a from which extends a rod 14b having an arched portion 14c, under which the gripper reciprocates, and a depending portion 14a. One end of the pipe 13 is fixed by a clamp 16 to the portion 14a, and the other end of the pipe 13 is fixed in a cylindrical block 12. The block 12 is non-rotatably, but slidably mounted in a base in an arm 11 fixed to the shaft 5 so as to oscillate therewith. Air is supplied to the pipe 13 through a flexible hose 18 and pipe 19 connected by pipe 20 to the pipe 13. A branch 23 is provided in the pipe 19 which, through a flexible hose 22, leads to an additional blower pipe 21 rotatably mounted on a spigot 24 in the plane containing the pipes 17. As the sheets are delivered on to the pile 10a powder is blown through a nozzle 34, provided on a bracket 35 clamped to a rod 27, through a flexible hose 36. The rod 27 is mounted between the depending rod portion 14a and an extension 11a of the arm 11 and carries two projecting stops 29. The rod 27 forms a main guard rod and a rear guard rod 30 is mounted between two levers 31 rotatably mounted on the rod 27 but spring biased into engagement with the stops 29. Strips 33 are provided at intervals between the two rods 27 and 30.
