Abstract

703,496. Embossing &c. MILFORD-ASTOR, Ltd. May 2, 1952 [May 3, 1951], No. 10360/51. Class 100 (2) In apparatus for printing on a narrow web 1 by passing it together with a thermoplastic colour medium foil 2 between a fixed heated die 3 and a movable platen 4 whereby the colour is transferred to the web, the printed web is passed over guide rollers a and over a heated fixed cylindrical surface A which draws the thermoplastic colour into the web, thereby rendering the impression substantially indelible. The surface A is heated by electric coils a<SP>1</SP> mounted inside thereof, and the heat is controlled manually. Where several narrow webs 1 are printed simultaneously, adjustable quadrant-shaped guides B are provided. The cylindrical surface A is clamped between end flanges a<SP>2</SP> which are each carried by an arm a<SP>4</SP> on a bracket (not shown) mounted on the table 4. The web 1 is rewound on a roller a<SP>7</SP> driven from the platen drive means.
