Abstract
801,346. Hydraulic accumulators. GRATZMULLER, J. L. Aug. 27, 1956 [Sept. 3, 1955], No. 26114/56. Class 69 (2). To ensure that an accululator will supply a minimum pressure, or alternatively will supply no pressure, a piston 2 (Fig. 4) engages a valve 7 if the piston moves beyond the end of its normal operative stroke and opens the valve to exhaust via a normally open valve 35 and a passage 28, thereby rendering inoperative the hydraulic system, which is connected to a port 5. The accumulator has oil in the portion 4 and the other side of the piston is loaded by air, by a spring, or by a weight. A lever 40 is provided to close the valve 35 when the accumulator is filled. In a modification (Fig. 3) the extension of the valve 7 that engages the piston is dispensed with and the pressure in the portion 4 acts on the top of the valve 22 via ducts 41 and assists a spring 11 in keeping the valve closed. Three rods 7a spaced at 120 degrees project into the cylinder 1 and are engaged by the piston 2 and lift the valve by abutting a large flange 30 on the valve.
