Abstract
755,342. Hydraulic accumulators. KEELAVITE CO., Ltd. May 24, 1955 [March 12, 1954], No. 7360/54. Class 69 (2). A hydro-pneumatic accumulator comprises a piston 5 loaded by gas in a chamber 6 and having a hydraulic chamber 7 communicating through a passage 4 with a hydraulic system. A projection 11 is fast with the piston and is formed with a head 14 which enters the passage 4 as the piston descends towards the exhausted condition of the accumulator, thus restricting flow. On further downward movement the passage 4 is closed by a disc valve 16. The liquid trapped in chamber 7 is maintained at a pressure higher than that of the gas in chamber 6 owing to the differential areas of the piston. Leakage of gas into the hydraulic chamber is thus prevented. When the pressure in the hydraulic system rises, it acts through a passage 21, provided with a non-return valve 22, and passages 26 formed in the head 14, upon the disc valve 16 to lift it, and then upon the piston 5, which may thus be raised rapidly in spite of the presence of the bead 14 in the passage 4.
