Abstract
801,087. Road vehicle brakes. MOOREHEAD, A. S., and PETERSON, G. H. July 30, 1956, No. 23513/56. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXXII] In order that an automotive vehicle may have a low centre of gravity and yet be able to travel on roads requiring substantial road clearance for avoiding irregularities in the surface thereof, the body, not shown in Figs. 2 and 3, is mounted on a frame 12 which may be raised or lowered in relation to the wheel axles by hydraulically operated telescopic members 72 at the rear of the vehicle and hydraulic cylinder members 90, Fig. 5, operable on each of the front wheel independent stub axle suspensions. The rear telescopic members 72 operate through arms 70 extending from housings 38, such housings pivoting on the rear stub axles 54 and enclosing gears 66, 68 whereby the axles 54 are driven from the rear axle 28. The frame 12, which in Fig. 3 is shown in its raised position, may be lowered to a second position when the vehicle is travelling on smooth roads, and when lowered to a third position engages a brake rail 114, carried thereby, on to the ground for braking purposes as shown in Fig. 2.
