Abstract

800,336. Pencil holders. S. A. C. R. A. C. HARDMUTH & C. SOC., r.l. Jan. 8, 1957, No. 664/57. Class 146(3) A pencil holder is of the kind in which a spring retracted lead guide tube is longitudinally displaceable in a nose piece and has a gripping collet provided at its front end split into resilient prongs which are compressed by the inside of the nose piece. As shown, the lead guide tube 6 has a gripping collet 4 at its front end having a convex outer surface 15 for co-operation with a concave surface 18 formed in the nose piece 2, thus permitting leads of varying diameters being clamped by the collet. The lead guide tube 6 is pressed rearwardly by a spring 9. The collet 4 is divided by four slits 11 into an equal number of resilient prongs 12. The inner surfaces 16 of the prongs have projections 19 formed by longitudinal and transverse grooves 22, 21. The grooves may be straight or formed by screw threads crossing one another substantially at right angles.
