827,803. Propelling pencils. KREUTZER, R., and WISSMULLER, G., [trading as STAEDTLER, J. S., [Firm of]]. Dec. 24, 1957 [Dec. 24, 1956], No. 40114/57. Class 146(3) A lead-gripping device of the type fitted in the writing end of propelling pencils has internal grooving for holding the lead, a part of the grooved length being formed with transverse grooves and the other part with longitudinal grooves. The device is divided into a plurality of gripping jaws by longitudinal slots b, the jaws being provided in the region x on the sides facing the lead-receiving bore of the device with transverse grooves c which may be in the form of screw threads interrupted by the slots b. In the region y the jaws have longitudinal grooves d, the lead-gripping edges of which extend the same distance into the bore of the device as do the corresponding edges of the transverse grooves c. In a modification intended for use with leads having a longitudinally grooved outer surface, the edges of the grooves d project further into the bore than the edges of the grooves c and engage in the grooves in the leads.
