Abstract
770,141. Pencil holders. AMERICAN LEAD PENCIL CO. June 20, 1955 [May 3, 1955], No. 17744/55. Class 146(3). A pencil comprises a barrel 7 having clamping jaws 8 for retaining a lead in writing position, a runner 13 slidable on the barrel, a plurality of indicia that denote different types of lead and extending longitudinally of the barrel, and an indicator associated with the runner to designate the type of lead in use in accordance with the longitudinal position of the runner. As shown, the runner 13, which may be of metal or synthetic plastic, has a window 14 through which the indicia, corresponding to the various leads that may be used, can be seen. The jaws 8 are released by operation of a plunger 11. In a modification, the runner does not extend completely around the barrel, but has pointers at its opposing ends.
