Abstract
800,207. Control of A.C. motors. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Jan. 21, 1957 [Jan. 31, 1956], No. 2115/57. Class 38 (3). A three-phase motor is started by actuating a push-button to operate a contactor having contacts 1M1, 1M2, 1M3, whereby resistors R1, R2, R3 are connected in series with line conductors L1, L2, L3, and resistors R4, R5, R6, form part of a delta network comprising the stator phase windings 11, 12, 13. After a time interval, contacts 2M1, 2M2, 2M3, are closed to shunt the resistors R1, R2, R3, thus leaving the resistors R4, R5, R6, in series with the phase windings of the motor. The contacts 1M1, 1M2, 1M3 are opened after a further time delay and contacts 3M1, 3M2, 3M3 are closed to form parallel combinations of resistors Rl-R6, each combination being in series with a phase winding. The contacts 1M1, 1M2, 1M3 are then reclosed to connect the stator windings directly across the power conductors, so completing the starting sequence. The resistors may be replaced by reactors.
