929,543. Control of motors. BRUCE PEEBLES & CO. Ltd. Aug. 11, 1960 [Aug. 14, 1959], No. 27941/59. Class 38 (3). The rotor winding of an induction motor 1 is connected through rectifiers 4 to the armature 2 of a D.C. machine, which is coupled to the induction motor, and whose field (and hence the back e.m.f.) may be reduced to zero and then reversed. By this means the resultant voltage at the D.C. side of the rectifiers may be brought to zero, enabling the induction motor to reach a speed close to that obtained if the rotor windings, were short-circuited. The field may comprise a separately excited main winding 5 with or without an opposing bias winding 6, and with or without an opposing series bias winding 7. When bias windings are used reversal of the resultant field is attained without switching, by reducing the current in main field 5 to zero. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 868,763 and 875,379.
