799,619. Piercing lawns ; rollers. HARTLEY, R. S. May 24, 1957 [May 30, 1956], No. 16671/56. Class 6(1). A device for aerating lawns comprises an I-shaped framework 10, the two parallel members 11 of which are formed with holes to receive the axles of two parallel rollers 14 and 16, roller 14 is wooden, and the roller 16 is made of metal and has spikes 17 projecting from its surface, the spikes being bent so as to extend substantially tangentially to the roller. The device also comprises a tubular metal, U-shaped handle 18 pivotally connected to the frame 10 at a point between the two rollers, the pivotal movement of the handle being restricted by lugs 19 secured on the members 11. A hopper 21 for sand and/or fertilizer may be mounted on the handle, the hopper being provided with holes in its base so that the lawn is then spread with sand and/or fertilizer as it is aerated.
