Abstract
799,564. Copying-telegraph transmitters. CREED & CO., Ltd. Jan. 14, 1957, No. 1285/57. Class 40 (3). - A facsimile transmitting apparatus comprises a manually operated device set as the indication of the length of the message portion on a sheet whilst disposed in a preparatory position before it is fed to the scanning position and means operated by the indicating device during rotation of the sheet past the scanning arrangement so that signals are transmitted in respect of the message portion, but are suppressed at other times. Before transmission begins, the message sheet 1 is held by a clip 2 on the drum 3 and supported against a wall 4. A pointer 5 positioned according to the end of the message on the sheet 1 and carried by a guided rod 6 rotates by means of cord 7 and a pulley 8, a pulley 10 freely mounted on the shaft 12 of the drum. Attached to the pulley 10 is a segment 13 carrying contacts 14 and having ratchet teeth 16 engaged by a spring detent 17 to hold the segment in its adjusted position against the action of a return spring 15. For transmission, the sheet 1 is wrapped on the drum 3 and scanned at a position 23. Contacts 24 located adjacent this position are actuated by a pin 25 which also operates the contacts 14. During scanning, the closure of contacts 24 energizes a polarized relay operating contacts to remove the short circuit of the line until the closure of contacts 14 oppositely energizes the relay to short-circuit the transmission line until the closure of contacts 24 is again effective to remove the short circuit at the commencement of the next line to be scanned. At the end of the transmission a projection 30 of an upwardly moved lever 27 rocks a lever 20 against its biasing spring 19 to disengage the pawl 17 from the ratchet 16 so that the spring 15 returns the segment 13 to its normal position with the contacts 14 adjacent the contacts 24. The circuit for the polarized relay is described in connection with Fig. 2 (not shown).
