Abstract

The invention comprises novel compounds of the general formula ROOC(A)NH.CS.NH(A)COOR, where A is an alkylene straight- or branched-chain radical having 3 to 17 carbon atoms, and R is hydrogen, alkali metal or an alkyl radical having 1 to 18 carbon atoms. The dialkali metal salt is prepared by reacting (i) an alkali metal salt or (ii) an alkyl ester of an amino acid successively with CS2 and NaOH; with (i) the final solution is refluxed, and with (ii) the solution in an inert solvent, such as ethanol, benzene and toluene, is refluxed with evolution of H2S. Acidification to a pH of approximately 2.5 yields the free acid, which may then be esterified by known techniques. In examples, the preparation is described of compounds in which A is -(CH2)3- and R is myristyl, octyl, methyl and hydrogen, and in which A is -(CH2)5- and R is myristyl, decyl, isodecyl, octyl, capryl, butyl, ethyl, methyl and hydrogen.
