Abstract

2,4-Diamino-5-benzylpyrimidines of the formula (I) <IMAGE> in which R is an alkyl group with 1-4 carbon atoms or a halogen atom are prepared by reacting an appropriate beta -aminoacrylonitrile of the formula (V) <IMAGE> in which R' is an anilino group which is optionally substituted, or a morpholino group, with guanidine to give a compound of the formula (VI) <IMAGE> and converting the latter by elimination of the methoxymethyl radical into the compound of the formula (I). The compounds (I) can be obtained as acid addition salts and be used for chemotherapeutic purposes.
