Abstract

799,233. Windows. PERSSON, E. S. Jan. 18, 1956 [Nov. 8, 1955]. No. 1750/56. Class 20(3) In a window sash construction the space between outer and inner panes 16 18 is divided, by a middle pane 20, into two compartments 22, 24 which communicate with each other through, spaces around the upper and lower edges of the middle pane 20, the sash frame being composed of interlocking inner and outer frame parts 12, 10 which are separated by a heat insulating strip 14. A strip 44 is provided to strike a fixed frame 1. The upper and lower edges of the middle pane 20 are wedged in a groove 28 in the inner frame part 12 i by means of distance pieces 30 the faces of the groove, spaced from the corresponding edge of the middle pane forming, between the distance pieces 30, the communicating passages between the two compartments 22, 24. Resilient strips 38 seal the inner pane 24 in a groove 36 in the inner frame part 12, and the outer pane 16 in a groove 34 formed between an end wall 40 of the inner fame part 12, and an opposite flange 42 on the outer frame part 10. The side edges of the middle pane 20 are completely sealed in the groove 28, how-. ever, the side edge portions adjacent the upper and lower edges of the pane may be left free in a manner similar to that employed at the upper and lower edges. In a modification, Fig. 7, the middle pane 20 is accommodated in a groove 28 in a metal insert 46 mounted on a generally U-shaped inner frame member 12 which' is interlocked, with the interposition of an insulation layer 14, with ,a ,generally T shaped outer frame part 10, the inner and outer panes 18, 16 being received in grooves 34, 36 formed respectively between one end .52 of the insert 46 and a flange 48 on the outer frame part 10, and the other end 54 of the insert and a flange 50 on the inner frame part 12. In a further modification, not shown, the insert is formed of hard rubber. The middle pane can consist of glass, or plastic, and may be made of a soft material having good heat msulating properties.
