Abstract
798,828. Composition fuel. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP BRIKO. Jan. 21, 1955 [Jan. 23, 1954], No. 1968/55. Class 50. A starting material such as coal, anthracite, brown coal or peat is mixed with an aqueous dispersion of a single binding agent consisting of a product prepared by treating starch, dextrin, a lower alkyl cellulose or carboxy methyl cellulose with a dilute aqueous solution of a low molecular weight aliphatic monocarboxylic acid, the treated material being briquetted under pressure and dried. In an example, 30 grams of dextrin are dissolved in 1 litre of water and treated with 55 ml. of 80 per cent acetic acid, a few drops of ammonia being added to remove the pungent odour. This product is mixed with raw material comprising 25 per cent of coal sludge and 75 per cent coal dust, the product being 10 per cent by weight of the raw material and the briquettes being shaped tmder a pressure of 4 atmospheres and heated to 120‹ C. to dry them. In a second example, 6 grams of methyl hydroxyethyl cellulose are dissolved in 1 litre of water and treated with 7.5 ml. of 80 per cent acetic acid while heating to 40‹ C. This is mixed with raw material consisting of 25 per cent coal sludge of low volatility and 75 per cent anthracite fines. Specification 794,569, [Group V] is referred to.
