Abstract
798,829. Composition fuel. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP BRIKO. April 26, 1955 [April 26, 1954], No. 12052/55. Class 50. A starting material such as coal dust is intimately mixed with a single binding agent consisting of the conversion product prepared by treating one or more higher carbohydrates or carbohydrate ethers in finely divided dry condition with a concentrated low molecular weight aliphatic monocarboxylic acid in liquid or gaseous form, the mixture being thereupon briquetted under pressure, and dried. The product prepared from the carbohydrate or carbohydrate ether may be mixed with an artificial resin similarly treated with acid. Solid paraffin wax or kernel oil may be added as a water-repellant. In an example, 20 Kg. of potato starch are mixed with 2.7 Kg. of 80 per cent acetic acid and the mixture heated to 175‹ C. 2 Kg. of polyvinyl acetate are mixed with 2.5 Kg. of 80 per cent acetic acid and heated to 60‹ C. Both products are mixed well and 0.6 Kg. of solid paraffin wax added.. All this is then mixed with 1,000 Kg. of coal dust, heated to 90‹ C., briquetted and dried in air. In another example, the mixture is dispersed in water or an aqueous liquid before adding to the coal dust. Specification 794,569, [Group V], and 798,828 are referred to.
