Abstract

1,266,647. Starch liquefaction. MILES LABORATORIES Inc. 7 Aug., 1970 [1 June, 1970], No. 38283/70. Addition to 1,200,817. Heading C3U. Starch is liquefied by;- (1) heating an aqueous slurry of a starch material which has a Ca+ + molarity of 0.003- 0.03 to 121-177‹ C. to gelatinize the starch, (2) cooling the gelatinized material to 93- 102‹ C., adding α-amylase and maintaining the resulting mixture at 93-102‹ C. for 10-60 minutes, and (3) cooling the mixture to about 85‹ C., adding further α-amylase, and maintaining at about 85‹ C. until the mixture has a Dextrose Equivalent value of 9-30. The aqueous slurry may comprise Na+ in a molarity of 0.0018 to 0.12, the ratio Na/Ca being 0.6-4. The starch may be a corn starch, and suitable Ca and Na compounds for inclusion in the slurry are CaCl 2 , Ca(OH) 2 , and NaOH. The subject-matter of the parent Specification is disclaimed.
