Abstract

502,619. Agglomerating fuel. SQUIRE, L. R. L. Sept. 23, 1937, No. 25843. [Class 50] A binder for aggregates such as fuel briquettes comprises peat treated with alkalis and a small quantity of starch incorporated therewith before, during or after the alkali treatment, insufficient to act as a binder but replacing the lost colloidal substances of the, peat. In an example, to a Welsh peat is added a milk of starch forming a slurry containing 10 per cent dry peat and starch amounting to 10 per cent 'of the weight of dry peat. A mixture of 136À4 kg. of the slurry, made slightly alkaline with caustic soda, with 1000 kg. ground anthracite is moulded into pellets. Another mixture contains half this quantity of starch. The aqueous content of the mixture is preferably 10-11 per cent by weight. Specification 417,923 is referred to.
