Abstract
798,427. Steam traps. DOMNICK, L. April 23, 1956 [April 23, 1955; Dec. 17, 1955], No. 12284/56. Class 64(2) [Also in Group XXIX] An apparatus for the discharge of condensation water comprises a thermally actuated valve in which two or more bimetallic discs or groups of bimetallic discs are loosely mounted on a valve spindle or on a rod connected to the valve spindle in such a manner that the adjacent discs or groups of discs bulge or curve outwardly in opposite directions upon increase in temperature, causing movement of the valve spindle towards the valve closing position. The valve body 1 has an inlet passage 2 and an outlet passage 3. A valve seat member 5 is screwed into an internally threaded portion of the body close to the outlet 3 and has an inner passage 9 through which a valve rod 7 passes, the rod having a spherical closure member 10, which co-operates with a valve seat 5a. The bimetallic discs 15 are loosely mounted on the rod 7 between nuts 14 and a plate 13 which has a sleeve 32 in threaded engagement with the valve seat member 5. Linear adjustment of the bimetallic column is provided by screwing the plate 13 in or out of the valve seat member by means of 3 equally spaced rods 20, which engage at one end in slots 16 in the periphery of the plate 13 and at the other end are attached to a spindle 19. The entire bimetallic column and valve can be withdrawn as a single structural unit by removing the cover 4 and unscrewing the valve seat member 5 by means of the hexagonal flange 11 in another embodiment the bimetallic discs are grouped, each group consisting of 3 discs of different diameter and arranged in such manner that when heated will curve in the same direction. In this embodiment linear adjustment of the column is provided by means of a cagelike structure surrounding the column and moved axially by rotation of a bolt engaging in the end of the structure.
