Abstract

798,052. Sewing machines. SOC. PER AZIONI VIRGINIO RIMOLDI & C. Sept. 25, 1956 [Oct. 13, 1955], No..29299/56. Class 112 In a sewing machine comprising a needle reciprocating over a rectilinear path 16 extending trhough a work-supporting plate 15, a looper 1 is secured to one end of a rod 2 of which the other end is moved over an arcuate path, and the rod is mounted for longitudinal movement in a guideway 9 pivoted about an axis 9a which is perpendicular to and intersects the axis of the rod. A lever 4, fulcrummed at 5, is pivoted at 3 to the rod and has a ball and socket connection 6 with a connecting rod 7 driven by a crankshaft 8. The arrangement is such that the looper tip travels along a first portion 17 of large radius, the chord 18 of which is at an angle of 17 degrees to the needle path, and along a second portion 20 of smaller radius and extending through the needle path, the centre 21 of portion 20 being slightly below plate 15 and on the side remote from the needle path.
