Abstract

859,628. Sewing machines. FENDT, H., and FENDT, X., [trading as FENDT & CO., X.]. April 7, 1959 [May 28, 1958], No. 11758/59. Class 112 In a linking machine having a rotary ring of points a curved needle is carried by an arm pivoted on a member adapted to reciprocate during the stitching operation. In Fig 1 a curved needle 13, in a machine having a rotary ring of points 7, is carried by one. arm 8b of a bell crank lever pivoted at 6 to a rod 5 slidably mounted in a member 11. Rod 5 is coupled, for reciprocation, by a link 3 to a crank pin 2 carried by a rotary shaft 1 journalled in member 11. The other arm 8a of the bell crank lever is slotted to receive a pin 9 on a rod 10 rigid with member 11. The arrangement is such that the needle has imparted thereto a combination of rectilinear and pivotal movements. In Fig. 2 the arm 8a is not directly connected to member 11. The needle therefore receives only a rectilinear movement until arm 8a engages a lug 14 on member 11, when pivotal movement is additionally imparted to the needle. It is stated that a spring is interposed between rod 5 and arm 8a to hold the latter in a fixed angular position until it engages lug 14.
