Abstract

In a linking machine in which a hooked needle co-operates with a thread-layer, the needle moves outwardly from within a rotary point dial, and also oscillates about its axis. A hooked needle 6, co-operating with a threadlayer 5 movable in an elliptical path, is carried by a needle bar 7, slidable in an arm 8 pivoted at 19 about an axis concentric with the axis of the rotary point dial 1. A mechanism 2 is adapted to oscillate arm 8 for shifting the needle between adjacent points. The inner end of needle bar 7 is fixed to one end of a bar 11, the other end of which carries a pin 11a having a spherical head 11b slidable in a cylindrical groove 13 formed in a block 12. The latter is rigid at its lower end with an arm 10 having a universal connection 16 with a crank pin 15 on a disc 17 carried by a driven shaft 18. The upper end of block 12 carries a bar 14 slidably embracing pin 15. The outer end of arm 10 has a universal connection 9a with a pin 9 slidable in a groove 9' formed in arm 8. The arrangement is such that the needle hook points downwards when the needle is fully retracted and extended, and the needle oscillates about its axis through 45 degrees in opposite directions during its outward and inward strokes.
