Governing needle - thread; needles, driving.-In a machine having a needle-bar actuated by a connecting-rod from a crank on a horizontal shaft, a take-up arm is actuated by a crank-pin coaxial with the connection of the needle-bar connecting- rod to the crank, and the needle-bar is placed at a sufficient distance. from the vertical plane containing the axis of the shaft to produce the necessary phase difference between the movements of the needle and take-up. In the arrangement shown, applied to a machine in which the needle-bar 1 is mounted, for lateral vibration, in a gate 16 pivoted in blocks 14, 18 so that it can be adjusted in the line of feed as described in Specification 694,836 the take-up comprises an arm 6 pivoted on a crankpin 4 on a crank-disc 13 on the shaft 2 and connected by a link 7 to a pivot 8 on the block 14; the crank-pin 4 also carries the connecting-rod 5 actuating the needle-bar, which reciprocates in a line spaced forwardly from the axis of the shaft 2. Alternative forms of the connections of the members 5, 6 to the crank-disc 13 are described and illustrated.
